"With Paris-Moscou the Goldberg Trio has embarked on a musical journey which takes the listener through Russia (Tanejev), France (Françaix), Austria (Haydn and Schubert), Hungary (Kodaly), the Czech Republic (Krasa) and Romania (Enescu). But it is not just a collection of string trios or works written for this formation, the compilation is designed so that, when you listen to them in one go, you get the impression that they form one great work. Thus, this journey is linear, with ups and downs, with the most varied views, moods and colours, but always within one big musical picture. Not only is the European idea sworn out, but it is also shown how the music, despite changes in time and style, always comes together to form a whole. In doing so, one encounters well-known pieces such as the string trio movement by Schubert and the string trios by Haydn and Françaix, as well as lesser known treasures such as Taneyev’s String T or Hans Krasa’s Dance. Liza Kerob, violin, Federico Hood, viola, and Thierry Amadi, cello, all three of whom are principals of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, have already scored with Bach’s Goldberg Variations and a CD with string trios by Cras, Weinberg, Klein and Dohnanyi. With this program they are convincing once again in every respect.
