"Music by Camille Saint-Saëns and Poulenc (clarinet sonatas), Portuguese clarinetist, born in 1995, and Japanese pianist Kosuke Akimoto play music by Debussy (1st Rhapsody), Honegger and Milhaud (Sonatine), as well as Jean Françaix’s Variations on a CAvi CD. Pires plays brilliantly in the fast movements, very lyrically and expressively in the slow ones. In the interplay with the highly sensitive Akimoto he succeeds in quite moving moments. His clarinet sound is beautiful, round and supple."
